Boxing events need their own plan
A professional arena show and a club show in a community venue may both be boxing events, but the security plan cannot be identical. Capacity, alcohol, ticketing, backstage space and the relationship between supporters all change the risk picture.
The original Open Eyed guide looked at Nottingham and Nottinghamshire venues ranging from larger arenas to community spaces. The useful point is the same across all of them: the plan has to match the actual event.
Areas that need particular attention
Boxing events commonly create a few predictable pressure points.
- Ticket checks and queues at opening time
- Controlled access for fighters, officials and changing areas
- Ringside and backstage protection
- Crowd behaviour where alcohol is served
- Emergency access and clear routes through the venue
Use licensed roles correctly
Where a role requires an SIA licence, the person carrying it out should hold the appropriate licence. Organisers should also confirm venue requirements early rather than discovering them after tickets have been sold.
Open Eyed's experience around boxing gives the company a useful starting point, but every show still needs its own assessment and staffing plan.
